There are plenty of reasons to plan a romantic getaway: honeymoon, babymoon, anniversary, a little getaway to reconnect when life gets busy. And there are plenty of reasons to choose Wisconsin Dells for that getaway. Let’s review those reasons.
Romantic Places to Stay
There are several romantic resorts and getaways tucked into the Wisconsin Dells area. Sundara Inn & Spa is an adults-only destination spa and ranks high on the list for exclusivity and tranquility. The spa offers a purifying bath ritual, meditation trail, hammocks and luxury accommodations. Cozy condos are available for rent at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions and Wilderness Resort. If an intimate cabin sounds like it fits the bill, check out the rentals from Sand County Service Company.
Romantic Things to Do
There are plenty of couples activities in Wisconsin Dells. If you’re into tastings, take a tour at one of the wineries, breweries or distilleries that call the Wisconsin Dells area home. Fawn Creek Winery is a charming little winery on the north side of the Dells. They have an expansive series of outdoor patios in the pines, great entertainment in the summer months, and a nice little menu of appetizers to share. Baraboo Bluff Winery is just south of the Dells, tucked onto a scenic hillside with incredible views of the ancient bluffs. Wollersheim Winery & Distillery was first established in the 1840s and the property’s vibe is certainly historic. They boast award-winning wines and opened their new distillery building in 2015. Dells Brewing Co., Port Huron Brewing Company, Wisconsin Brew Pub and Sprecher’s Restaurant & Pub of Wisconsin Dells are great spots to sip on microbrews.
Besides Sundara Inn & Spa, there are several other spas in the area that offer couples massages and special treatments. Elements Spa Salon at Great Wolf Lodge, Spa Del Sol and Pink Nail Bar at Chula Vista Resort, Spa Kalahari & Salon and Spa Serenity are some of the options.
For excellent live music acts and gaming options, visit Ho-Chunk Gaming, Wisconsin Dells. Crystal Grand Music Theatre should also be on the list for music and entertainment, and Rick Wilcox Magic Theater is a Vegas-quality magic show that consistently ranks #1 on TripAdvisor. If you’re the competitive type, consider some of the sports in town. There are seven golf courses here, plus go-karts, ziplines, mini-golf, bowling and arcade games.
If outdoor adventure or soothing nature is your thing, keep in mind that we have three state parks surrounding us: Rocky Arbor State Park, Mirror Lake State Park and Devil’s Lake State Park. You can find hiking at all three and canoe/kayak rentals on Mirror Lake and Devil’s Lake (rentals available seasonally). For a short outing, take a romantic stroll on the Scenic River Walk in downtown Wisconsin Dells.
Romantic Places to Dine
When it comes to romantic dining, our thoughts immediately turn to the fine supper clubs and steakhouses in the area. Options include classic supper clubs like Del-Bar, designed by a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Ishnala Supper Club (open seasonally), which is tucked away in the pines on the banks of tranquil Mirror Lake. Divine steakhouses Double Cut Charcoal Grill/Liquor Bar, Field’s at the Wilderness, and Kaminski’s Chop House at Chula Vista Resort are also at the top of the list for a romantic evening. Dells Boat Tours® Sunset Dinner Cruise offers both a tour of the Wisconsin River and dinner at sunset.
Romantic Places to Splurge
Besides the spa treatments and activities, we have a few more recommendations for splurging. Wisconsin Dells wouldn’t be the same without its fudge shops. Try Swiss Maid Fudge, Original Wisconsin Dells Fudge or Wisconsin Dairyland Fudge. If your timing is right, you can even watch them hand-making fresh batches of fudgy goodness. Goody Goody Gum Drop, Kernel Popcorn’s Factory/Aunt Jenny’s Candy Kitchen, Sweet Hut at Kalahari, and Oodlesmack Popcorn offer additional candy and popcorn sweets and treats to enjoy in the moment or to take home for later.
Outlets at The Dells℠ is another great place to splurge with your sweetheart. Take your time and browse the 50+ stores. If you’re downtown, head to Winnebago Fine Goods & Gift Shop which has been in the business of outfitting Wisconsin Dells visitors with resort wear and souvenirs since 1949.
