Last Minute Day Trips

Kids at Mt Olympus theme and water park

Sometimes a multi-day getaway just isn’t in the cards and we get that. But a day trip to the Dells can go a long way in satisfying that craving for one more dose of summer fun in Wisconsin Dells. Time to start deliberating on which of these five best suits you.

Waterslides Under Blue Skies: Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park has the Great Pool of Delphi, with 27,000 square feet of swimming space, and the crystal blue water sure looks inviting. Chula Vista Resort Waterparks and Kalahari Resort Waterparks also offer day passes. When you have the time for more than just a day trip, keep Great Wolf Lodge and Wilderness Resort in mind too, their waterparks are reserved for resort guests.

Yellowstone of the Midwest: Start at the historic H.H. Bennett Studio to see Bennett’s landscape photos that helped make the Dells famous. Next, stroll the Scenic River Walk with entry access right downtown. Then take a scenic boat tour of the Wisconsin River to drink in the sights of magnificent towering bluffs. Now you’re ready to get on the water yourself, with a kayak, canoe, stand up paddleboard or river tubing adventure.

Adrenaline Rush: Starting in the air, there’s zip lining and Dells Zipline Adventures aerial park. On land, hop in a go kart or brave a roller coaster. On water, fly through the water on a jet boat tour. Additional plug here for the extreme waterslides at the large waterparks.

Classic Bucket List: Take a DUCK tour of Lake Delton and the Wisconsin River followed by a canyon tour by horse-drawn wagon at Lost Canyon Tours. Splash at a waterpark. Play 90 holes of mini golf at Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf. Pet the deer at Wisconsin Deer Park. Head downtown to eat some fudge and buy some moccasins.

Foodie Tourism: Indulge in the donuts at Paul Bunyan’s Northwood’s Cook Shanty or a tall stack of pancakes at Mr. Pancake. Monk’s Bar & Grill in downtown Dells is a favorite for burgers. MACS – Macaroni and Cheese Shop has gourmet mac and cheese for grown-up tastes plus plenty of kid favorites. Swiss Maid Fudge and Original Wisconsin Dells Fudge exist to satisfy your sweet tooth. Market Square Cheese has 100 varieties of Wisconsin-made cheese and The Meat Market has more than 20 flavors of brats, so bring a cooler. Go for wine tastings at Wollersheim Winery & Distillery, Fawn Creek Winery and Baraboo Bluff Winery. Try the microbrews at Dells Brewing Co. Make your last stop of the day one of the area’s supper clubs, like the Del-Bar, Ishnala Supper Club or House of Embers.
