Downtown Wisconsin Dells is where tourism sprung up generations ago. Today, it’s still a bustling spot for strolling, shopping, sightseeing, and eating. And we dare you to resist buying some creamy, delicious fudge while you’re walking Broadway. Original Wisconsin Dells Fudge claims to be the first fudge shop in the Dells – it opened in 1962 – and today they still cook, hand paddle, cut and package the sweet treat the way they’ve always done, using the same old-fashioned recipe. In keeping with today’s nutty fudge theme, try the chocolate walnut, turtle or butter pecan varieties. Similar advice stands for visits to Candy Connection, Grandma’s Original Fudge and Dells Fudge Company, all on Broadway.
But wait, there’s more. Swiss Maid Fudge also opened in 1962, and it continues to be owned by the same family. They are sticklers for natural ingredients like Wisconsin sweet cream butter, heavy cream, pure chocolate and vanilla. We recommend the cranberry walnut, milk chocolate nut fudge, and vanilla nut fudge. Wisconsin Dairyland Fudge has a dark chocolate nut fudge and a maple nut variety, both of which you should try.
