Best Ways to See the Wisconsin River

The Wisconsin River, with its majestic sandstone bluffs, is a favorite diversion for visitors to the area. Here are five ways to experience the waterway.

  1. Ducks — Wisconsin Dells is home to the largest collection of WWII amphibious vehicles known as "Ducks." These restored Ducks travel by land and water and take you through some tight squeezes amidst the bluffs.
  2. Jet Boats — These boats cruise over sandbars as shallow as one-foot, and are famous for their power stops, slides and spin-outs.
  3. River Cruise — Guided tours, some with sunset dinners and entertainment, offer a more laid-back option to Wisconsin River exploration.
  4. Fishing — Bring your own boat or rent one for the day. Drop in a line for musky or pan fish.
  5. Dells RiverWalk — This last one, a new paved walkway adjacent to the river, keeps you on terra firma, but offers vistas of the Wisconsin River not seen for 75 years.
