Wisconsin Dells Reinvents Itself Quarterly

Dells RiverWalk

For a community long known as the summer hotspot in the Midwest, Wisconsin Dells has done something many of its competitors are in awe and envy of, and that's to transform the city into a year-round destination. Sure, the introduction of the indoor waterparks was a huge step, but it may surprise many to know that nearly 90 percent of the area's attractions are open 12 months a year. You read that correctly -- they're open all year long. Whether you choose to pack snow gear or swim fins or both, there's plenty to keep travelers busy. As one staffer at the Wisconsin Dells Visitor & Convention Bureau noted, "If you haven't visited Wisconsin Dells in a few years, you haven't been to Wisconsin Dells."

Having said all that, it's worth noting some of the activities by season that shouldn't be missed. Let's start with spring. It's a wonderful time to get out the hiking shoes and fishing poles. The Dells has become quite popular as a Spring Break destination too, catering to the younger students and their parents who look forward to a break from cabin fever and school.

Summer means outdoor waterpark fun. Acres of it. It's also the season to test your driving skills at the go-kart parks and test your fortitude on the roller coasters. The Tommy Bartlett Show is a tradition in the summer too.

When fall rolls around, visitors are ready for some leaf-peeping, with the Dells RiverWalk along the Wisconsin River providing some spectacular vistas. The scenery is also pretty grand on the area golf courses. Many are surprised to learn the river tours by DUCK and jet boat and other watercraft go well into fall.

Finally, winter. Cross country trails and snowmobile trails crisscross Wisconsin Dells. Nearby ski hills are a draw. And indoor waterparks, always a balmy 85 degrees, and indoor attractions get mighty attractive this time of year.
