Dells For Grown-ups

Winery Straight Out of Europe

For wine lovers willing to spend their last dollar on a trip to Italy or Napa Valley, consider banking the money this year and instead traveling to little Prairie du Sac to experience the Wollersheim Winery. A short drive from Wisconsin Dells through some of the prettiest countryside in the state brings visitors to a most unexpected site: a winery that looks as though it was transplanted directly from Europe. You’ll stroll up a tumbled brick path, with views to the Wisconsin River just over your shoulder, to the limestone buildings circa 1858 that house the winery, tasting room, retail store and gathering room. The micro-climate of the Wisconsin River allows for the growing of a winter hardy French-American hybrid grape. The vines are meticulously maintained and lead to a grotto-like cave where wine was first aged more then 150 years ago. Due to a change in state law, Wollersheim Winery began distilling its own Brandy in 2013, from estate grown grapes. In 2014, they broke ground on a 25,000 square foot distillery.

Spa Tour Requires You to Slow Down

One of the most popular resort amenities these days is the spa. And who could blame travelers for wanting the ultimate in R&R when the purpose of their vacation is precisely R&R. While Wisconsin Dells is known worldwide for its family-friendly features, it doesn’t scrimp on the grown-up treat of spas. All the big waterpark resorts boast spas. At Spa Del Sol and Pink Nail Bar at Chula Vista Resort for example, visitors can enjoy the resort's version of hot springs -- a huge outdoor whirlpool with heated concrete decks and a two story adobe fireplace set in an adult-only serene environment. Sundara Inn & Spa was named the #5 Top Destination Spa by Travel + Leisure Magazine in 2014. All of Sundara is adult-only, and its signature product line incorporates botanicals and minerals native to the Dells.
