Rick Wilcox Magic Theater Stories
2013-08-19We went to the Rick Wilcox Magic show on the recommendation of a worker at the Deer Park. She said that Rick was the highest rated attraction in town. (The deer park is a close second for my kids) He did not disappoint. It was a very entertaining show and he has great stage presence keeping everyone captivated. I also enjoyed how he invited many members of the audience to be part of the show. Two thumbs up from this dad!!!!!!

2013-07-04All around wonderful!!! At first we were a little unsure what to expect but from the moment the show started I was so glad that we decided to go!! Great magic and the comedy, well I haven't laughed that hard in some time. While leaving we were already making plans for next time and who we would want to bring with us! Amazing show all around, definitely worth it!

2012-08-19This was by far our family's favorite attraction during our stay in the Dells. From age 3 to 32, we all had a fabulous time! Rick and Susan were wonderful and so funny. Their chemistry was amazing and the show was brilliant. We are so glad we got to see it and would go back for sure!

2010-08-23My husband and I went to the Dells for our anniversary (11 years). We decided that this is one of the things we wanted to do for our entertainment. I was a little unsure to begin with, thinking the show was going to be a little more for children than adults, but I was WRONG! From the first moment the show started, my attention was so focused on the show that I did not even know what time it was. My favorite part was both Rick and his wife not only made a great team as magicians, but also illusionists and comedians. Their show left me and my husband talking for hours after the performance was over. This show was truly one that everyone needs to see. I can not wait to go back soon to see it again. We still are talking about it and it has been 4 days already. I would highly reccoment this show to anyone looking for a great performance with a mixture of magic and comedy. GREAT SHOW

Rick and Suzan Wilcox are master illusionists. When you take in their show, one of the most mystifying Wisconsin Dells attractions, expect to see people completely disappear or float on thin air.

Crystal Grand Music Theatre

Just like Vegas, you can expect a wide range of musical and comedy acts at this 2,000-seat venue in the Dells. Look for today's top country stars and Nashville legends to perform this year.

tommy-bartlett-show-wi-dells-34Tommy Bartlett Show

One of the classic attractions, the Tommy Bartlett Show is as Wisconsin Dells as it gets. With sparkly costumes, unbelievable stunts, fast boats, and a laser light show during night performances, this show is a must-see.

ho-chunk-casino-wi-dells-40Ho-Chunk Gaming, Wisconsin Dells

This is so Vegas, with slots 24/7, blackjack, five restaurants, luxury hotel accommodations on par with premier Wisconsin Dells hotels, talented musicians and comedians performing, a fitness and aquatic center and a convention center. A large bingo hall seats 500.

Mind you, this is just a partial list of the Wisconsin Dells attractions that are available after the sun goes down. Ask locals where they like to go for entertainment and you're bound to get an expanded inventory of recommendations, like live music at area clubs and pubs, sunset dinner cruises, or the old-timey outdoor drive-in theater.

Family Playtime After Dark
2010-06-28

wisconsin-dells-mini-golf-84When families vacation in Wisconsin Dells, believe us when we say they work hard to squeeze every minute of fun out of their getaway.  And that often includes hitting activities and Wisconsin Dells attractions after dark.

Stroll downtown Wisconsin Dells on a summer evening and you’ll find families ducking into fudge and candy shops for a late night treat, then lingering on benches to let the chocolate-y goodness melt in their mouths. Stores up and down Broadway keep their lights on so shoppers can pick up a Dells hoodie or a new swim suit to debut the next day at one of the many Wisconsin Dells water parks.  And there’s nothing like mini-golfing in the Dells under the lights at places like Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf, Timber Falls Adventure Park. Or, plan on a keepsake photo from Old Abe’s Old Time Portraits or Professor Porter’s Old Time Portraits.

big-sky-drive-in-dells-84What’s a classic night of fun without a drive-in movie?  Yes, there’s still such a thing in the Dells - at the Big Sky Twin Drive-In Theater.   Haunted houses seem to be scarier after dark, which makes the Ghost Out-Post Haunted House a family favorite when the moon comes out.

There’s evening entertainment for those who prefer late night over matinee, like the Tommy Bartlett Show of water skiers on Lake Delton and the Rick Wilcox Magic Theater magic show.

Kalahari WI DellsThe Dells' indoor amusement parks keep their lights on late for visitors as well.  Topping the list of family favorite Wisconsin Dells attractions are businesses like the massive Kalahari Indoor Theme Park, the laser bowling mecca known as Knuckleheads Bowling & Indoor Amusement Park and the Downtown Dells Wild Fun Zone.

So forget curfews when you’re in Wisconsin Dells.  And don’t bother with a wake-up call the next morning either.  After all, you’re on vacation.

indoor-water-parks-wi-dells-99Wisconsin Dells Indoor & Outdoor Water Parks

Some families just seem to have the adrenaline gene.  You know the type.  They’re happiest when every second is filled with adventure, intrigue, exploration and fun.  And that just covers plans for the morning.  If you’re one of those, Wisconsin Dells applauds your energy and zest for life.  In fact, you’ll feel right at home in this, “The Waterpark Capital of the World!®”, given many of the attractions here sprung up with family fun in mind.  Plan for at least a few days to get to everything on your list, knowing there will be plenty of time to sleep later.

Let’s commence with a lodging choice.  Of course there are great water park resorts.  The area has small, medium, large and gargantuan-sized water park resorts, so it’s your choice.  If you like the option of indoor and outdoor water parks, then consider one of the five largest - the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, the Kalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center, Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Parks, Chula Vista Resort or Great Wolf Lodge.  The number of rides, slides, tube funnels and watercoasters your family can play on is staggering.  The surf machine at Kalahari is enough to keep tweens and teens occupied for hours at a time as they try to catch a wave indoors.  At the Wilderness Resort, the place is so sprawling they have shuttles to take you from one water park to the next on the property.  Their new zip line gives you a lay of the land from the air as you glide above the tree tops.  Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Parks' outdoor water park includes a surf pool with nine-foot waves and a sandy beach and six side-by-side racing slides. Their indoor water park includes towering tube slides and endless river. Chula Vista Resort has an outdoor water park overlooking the Wisconsin River, a second outdoor water park on the other side of the property, and an indoor water park that you access via an underground tunnel.  Very cool.  Great Wolf Lodge has built its stock in trade with the younger kids and has themed their place to the hilt.

If you plan to visit Wisconsin Dells during the warm weather months, you could stay at your favorite hotel or motel, and then head out first thing in the morning to spend the day at Noah’s Ark Waterpark, the country’s largest outdoor water park.  Noah’s Ark has the extremes, with the family friendly Tadpole Bay at one end of the spectrum and the new Scorpion’s Tail loop-de-loop extreme tube slide for bigger kids and adults at the other end.  Bring comfortable aqua shoes as you and your family will be covering 70 acres in your quest to try all 80 rides, slides and activities at Noah’s.

indoor-theme-parks-dells-99Indoor Wisconsin Dells Amusement Parks

When you’ve logged sufficient hours at the water parks, dry off the kids and head to the indoor amusement parks.  Kalahari Indoor Theme Park has a six-story high Ferris wheel, multi-level go-kart track, laser tag, 24 lanes of bowling, a ton of arcade games, a ropes course, climbing wall and mini-golf.  Let’s all pause to catch our breath.  Knuckleheads Bowling & Indoor Amusement Park also has two dozen lanes of bowling, a 4D theatre ride, bumper cars and go-karts, plus you can grab dinner next door at Buffalo Phil’s Pizza & Grille, where their three secret-recipe BBQ sauces, made and bottled on premise, making family dining there triple the fun.

outdoor-theme-parks-wi-dells-99Outdoor Dells Amusement Parks

There are outdoor amusement parks that are must-stops for families who crave fun and exhilaration.  Timber Falls Adventure Park has a roller coaster called the Hellcat that features 70-degree banks and 10-story drops and is a favorite among roller coaster fan clubs.  You’ll get some air on the coaster, and even more air on their end-over-end ride called the Skyscraper.  It pulls 4 Gs at 60 mph 160 feet off the ground.

mini-golf-wisconsin-dells-99Mini-Golf In Wisconsin Dells

Time to move on to mini-golf.  Actually, you can stay put at Timber Falls and golf 72 holes, all in the shade of tall pines along the Wisconsin River.  There’s also Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf.

wi-dells-go-karts-99Dells Go-Kart Tracks

Large outdoor go-kart tracks are a favorite for families who like a little competition with their fun.  ADare Go Carts is everything you’d expect from a good track - hairpin turns, fast straightaways and racing through waterfalls (this is Wisconsin Dells, after all.)

jet-boats-wi-river-99Jet Boats On The Wisconsin River

Right about now you may be looking to cool off a little.  Take a jet boat ride on the Wisconsin River and you’ll cool off a lot, as in get soaked while the wind is whipping through your hair.  These rides are a blast, from the first 360-degree turn to the last, all under the power of a 1,200 hp engine.  There are two companies offering this option - Jet Boat Adventures and WildThing Jet Boats.

wi-dells-live-entertainment-99Dells Live Entertainment

End the day with some family entertainment that plays with your senses - Dells 4D Special FX Theater is a good choice, as is the Rick Wilcox Magic Theater - and then a great burger at Monk’s Bar & Grill, either the original restaurant downtown or the expanded version at the Wilderness Resort.

There, that should be enough family fun and adventure for one Wisconsin Dells getaway.

Dells Spring Break Rated "G" for Good Family Fun

While college kids try to snag a few extra bucks from mom and pop to fund their spring break vacation, littler kids might actually have it easier, with parents happily making all the arrangements for a spring break vacation getaway to Wisconsin Dells.  We’re famous for having water parks of all varieties, making us a family spring break frontrunner.  For a fun look at how the Dells matches up with the college version, activity by activity, read on.

Bask

The Dells indoor water park resorts keep the thermostat set in the balmy 80 degree-range, with the threat of inclement weather.

Tan

When the sun is out, the high-tech roof over the Wild Waterdome at the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort allows families to tan year-round. So slather on the sunscreen before you hit the wave pool.

Surf

Try the FlowRider® indoor surf machine at the Kalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center.  Water shoots upward at 50,000 gallons per minute to create a five-foot wave, giving it a feel of the real deal.

Hang Out at a Cabana

The Dells’ largest indoor water parks have private cabanas for rental and they come loaded with amenities for families, like air conditioning, Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and cabana staff at your beck and call.

Compete

Race against family and friends on the Mountain Edge Raceway racing slides at Great Wolf Lodge, the nation's first indoor competitive mat racer waterslides, where you’ll launch headfirst down the four-story slide. Older kids will surely want to try one of the enclosed dark tunnels.  The Matador Mat Racers at Chula Vista Resort’s indoor waterpark are a blast for families too.

Pose

Get that old-timey feeling going with a family portrait at Old Abe’s Old Time Portraits in Downtown Dells.

Eat Whatever You Want

Load up on sweets at Goody Goody Gum Drop or Swiss Maid Fudge or Wisconsin Dairyland Fudge.  Heck, buy something at all three.  And no Wisconsin Dells spring break vacation  is complete without some cheese from Market Square Cheese.

Shop

Pick out a new swimsuit at Aloha Hawaiian Shop.  Moccasins all around at Bailey’s Landing.  For souvenirs, it’s Aunt Jenny’s Got-It-All Store.

Be Entertained

Master illusionists Rick and Suzan Wilcox wow family crowds with their mix of magic and comedy, as good as anything you’ll see in Vegas, at their Rick Wilcox Magic Theater.  The Dells 4D Special FX Theater is another family-friendly option, with blockbusters themed to dinosaurs, pirates and fairies.

Golf

We’re talking 18 holes of mini-golf indoors at the Kalahari Indoor Theme Park.  You’ll also find 24 lanes of bowling, an elevated go-cart track, ropes course, climbing walls, laser tag and arcade games here.  There’s go-carting aplenty at the Parthenon Indoor Theme Park at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Parks and Knuckleheads Bowling & Amusement Park as well.

Snag a Package Deal

Resorts around the Dells love the spring break vacation craze, so ask about special overnight packages when you call for reservations.
