Automotion 2013 Will Be an Instant Classic

April 01, 2013

Take 1,200 meticulously restored classic cars and trucks.

Add in cruisin’ classic routes and jammin’ to classic rock tunes.

Voila, an instant classic.

We’re referring to Automotion 2013, which, in the spirit of full disclosure, is actually in its 27th year, so it’s no flash in the pan. Yet this year there will be a little different vibe, thanks to music from Chameleon, a local Wisconsin band.  Chameleon will be performing from 10 am to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 with a big stage show that fulfills our definition of a really good classic rock group, namely one that plays songs you feel compelled to sing along to because you know every word. But the fun continues as the event runs both Saturday and Sunday and will be staged at Noah’s Ark Waterpark’s massive parking lot, with row-upon-row of 1989-or-older rides on display.

With Wisconsin Dells as the host city, you can count on Automotion to have big family appeal, often with three generations caravanning to the Waterpark Capital for a weekend of showing off their babies…their cars and trucks, that is.

The vehicles don’t just stay parked either. Many of the proud owners take them out for a spin on the Wisconsin Dells Parkway, with visitors lining up for a look at all that chrome and custom paint work. Participants also have a chance to take to the back roads this year for a mapped-out cruise of the scenic outskirts of the Dells.

The food is just how visitors like it at a classic event – casual, fresh and delish.  And there are activities for the little kids too.

Members of the Dells Area Cruisers play an official role at the event – they cast their votes for favorite street machine, custom car, street rod, classic ride, muscle car and truck of the year for 2013, with the winners announced at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Oh, you should know that spectator parking is at the Tommy Bartlett Show lot, 560 Wisconsin Dells Parkway, with shuttle service courtesy of the Original Wisconsin Ducks® and Dells Boat Tours®. That way all the parking spots at Noah’s Ark can be reserved for Automotion participants.
