Here A Festival, There A Festival, Everywhere A Festival

June 24, 2010

Seems the folks in Wisconsin Dells just can’t help themselves when it comes to throwing a good shindig.  The community hosts a number of major festivals each year, to say nothing of the events going on regularly at the resorts and attractions around town.  But let’s not get off track, we’re talking the big ones, and here they are.

Wo-Zha-Wa Days Fall Festival, Sept. 16-18, 2011

You’ll be forgiven if you misspell the name, but not if you miss out on this quaint fall coming-together.  It features an arts and crafts fair, antique flea market, old-fashioned Maxwell Street Days sidewalk shopping, food, entertainment and a 75-unit parade. If you like to get in your exercise even while on vacation, sign up for the Wo-Zha-Wa Run.

Autumn Harvest Fest, October 16-17, 2010

This fest features fruits, vegetables and hops.  It’s right in downtown Dells just off Broadway on La Crosse Street, and is chock full of goodies including a farmers’ market, pie contest and Wisconsin microbrew sampling.  Mustn’t leave out the arts & crafts marketplace, scarecrow stuffing contest or pumpkin decorating either.

Flake Out Festival, January 22-23, 2011

Flake Out Festival turns 21 in 2011.  Twenty-one years of unbelievable snow sculptures in the state’s only sanctioned snow sculpting competition.  Twenty-one years of frosty fun, frolicking, food, fireworks and a flurry of artisans in the arts & crafts marketplace.  Flake Out is staged adjacent to Buffalo Phil’s Pizza & Grille.

Automotion, May 21-22, 2011

There’s something to be said for a festival that, over the years, gets extremely popular by word of mouth because it usually means it’s something special.  And this festival is a whole lot of special, as in 1,200 cars and trucks lovingly restored by their owners and put on display for auto-philes to drool over.  Heck, even if you’re not an auto buff, you’ll covet these classic cars.  Awards are given, there’s entertainment, a car cruise, food, and even fun activities for the little ones.  The event is staged in the Noah’s Ark Waterpark parking lot.  Admission is free. In 2011, this festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Taste of Wisconsin Dells, June 11-12, 2011

This festival celebrates the start of summer with tasty samples from over 20 Dells area restaurants. There is also family stage entertainment, arts and crafts show, large corvette parade and viewing area, antique tractor show and library book sale. All activities for the Taste of Wisconsin Dells are located downtown and admission is free.

Waterslide-athon, June 18, 2011

You Can Help Raise Money for the Ronald McDonald House by Simply Sliding Down a Waterslide.  Sounds like a fun assignment, doesn’t it?

Each year, Wisconsin Dells hosts the country’s only Waterslide-athon to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in nearby Madison. Dollars will be donated each time someone slides down the designated slide at the waterpark.  Many area businesses will have donation canisters at their ticket windows, front desks and checkouts throughout the month of June too.
