Americans seem to favor a mix of old and new when it comes to holiday travel, traditions, meals and shopping. Which plays very nicely into the notion of spending some holiday time in the Dells.
Let’s start with Thanksgiving at our Wisconsin Dells resorts. Several of the large water park resorts have packages that include a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings and many area accommodations offer great Wisconsin Dells deals during the holidays. If your group includes die-hard sports fans, maybe opt for the new family cabins and condos in the area - they’re especially spacious so all the sports fans can gather ‘round the flat-screen for college football and NFL games.
How about a little music to get you in the spirit? This year’s holiday show at the Crystal Grand Music Theatre features Sara Evans. Check off lots of names on your Christmas list by doing some Wisconsin Dells shopping in the downtown river district of the Dells. Bop in to the classic stores for a pair of moccasins or pretty silver jewelry or find that one-of-a kind item in the artisan boutiques.
Speaking of Christmas, the business owners around town go all out with decorations, but none more so than Great Wolf Lodge where they actually rig up snow machines in the lobby and create actual snowfalls inside. The seasonal fudge treats from Swiss Maid Fudge are irresistible, so just give in to the urge already. It’s not unusual to see families arriving at Wisconsin Dells water park hotels in the days leading up to December 25 with wrapped gifts to open on Christmas morning – talk about anticipation!
When you’re as festive and fun as Wisconsin Dells, you can bet New Year’s Eve is duly observed with holiday flair as well. The Wisconsin Dells water parks and indoor amusement parks are open. Midnight countdowns are approached with great hoopla. Special entrées fill the menus of restaurants around town.
You know, just writing this put us in the holiday spirit!
