Father’s Day is June 17. We have ideas for Dads who like to golf.
The deep freeze and snow-covered April wreaked havoc with the psyche of golfers, making them all the more anxious to hit the greens once green was to be seen. Which is now! For Dads who like a good test of their skills, we have championship courses. For Dads wanting to introduce their kids to golf, we have nine-hole courses. First, the challenging courses.
Wild Rock Golf Club at the Wilderness The name hints at the hazards – this 18-hole course is built around and through a former quarry - with breathtaking vistas the reward for those who take it on. It was designed by the same duo who designed the site of last year’s U.S. Open.
Trappers Turn Golf Club This 27-hole course with a Scottish flair and spring-fed Mystic Lake was designed by two-time U.S. Open Champion Andy North and world-renowned golf course designer Roger Packard. Stay for Sunday brunch.
Cold Water Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort Scenic canyon fairways define this 18-hole course, one of the state’s most historic. A new Northwoods-style clubhouse is the perfect spot to celebrate a stellar round of golf.
Now, if Dad is looking to introduce his kids to the game, these are the perfect spots for that sports-centric bonding experience.
Spring Brook Golf Course At 9 holes and a par 36, this meticulously maintained course set amongst tall pines is perfect for a range of skill levels.
Fairfield Hills Golf Course & Driving Range This 12-hole course was designed with families and flexibility in mind. Play 3, 9, 12 or 18 holes. Arrive early to take a few swings on the large practice range.
The Woods Executive Course at the Wilderness The casual pace of this 9-hole course allows tweens and teens to work on their game under the tutelage of Dad.
If you’re a grown-up kid, as in 21 years or older, treat Dad to a microbrew at Moosejaw Pizza & Dells Brewing Co. Then head to Double Cut Charcoal Grill/Liquor Bar, Copper Oak Steak House, Kaminski’s Chop House at Chula Vista Resort or any of the other fine supper clubs in the area for a great steak.
Could be tough to top this one next year.
