Now that’s a headline we don’t write very often, “Leave the Kids at Home.” But hang with us here, as we have Valentine’s month ideas up our sleeve that say “I love you” in seriously sweet ways.
There are times when we act more grown up in Wisconsin Dells and Valentine’s month is one of them. By grown up, we mean catering to couples who just want a little time to themselves to reconnect outside the scramble of day-to-day life. Where to Stay
While there are loads of places to choose from, we’re going to highlight Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs) because that’s their jam, as in quiet, tucked-in accommodations and a tasty breakfast perhaps with homemade jam and toast. Bowman’s Oak Hill B&B, Inn at Wawanissee Point, and Ringling House B&B each serve up their own unique take on romance. Bowman’s has a cottage feel to it, Inn at Wawanissee Point is a modern villa, and Ringling House a faithfully resorted historic mansion.
Where to Eat
Hands down, our vote is for supper clubs. Dark wood, low lights, crisp white linens, wine list a mile long, and service that’s the very definition of fine dining. Make corner-table reservations at Del-Bar, House of Embers, Field’s at the Wilderness, Kaminski’s Chop House, Copper Oak Steak House, or Double Cut Steakhouse.
What to Do
This is your time to do the things you love to do alone, namely winery tours, spa together treatments, and gaming. Wollersheim Winery not only has wine but spirits as well, so sample your libation of choice at this historic winery that dates to the mid-1800s. Make the rounds to Baraboo Bluff Winery and Fawn Creek Winery too. Take your pick of spas in the area with couples’ treatment rooms – there’s Sundara Inn & Spa, Spa Kalahari & Salon, Spa Serenity, Spa Del Sol, and Elements Spa Salon. Next up, Ho-Chunk Gaming, where slots, roulette, and blackjack make for a very Vegas-esque entertainment experience. When it’s just the two of you, you can do all the extreme rides at the indoor waterparks, or maybe you’d just prefer to bob along on the lazy river.
What to Buy
Chocolate…you saw that coming, right? The confections at Swiss Maid Fudge, Wisconsin Dairyland Fudge, and the Dells Fudge Company are the chocolate version of “love at first sight.” Be sure to pick up a bottle, or two, of your favorite wine from your wine tastings, swing by Market Square Cheese for some fine Wisconsin cheese and head back to your cozy room for an evening in of pure relaxation.
