Cascade Mountain in nearby Portage has begun a $9 million expansion that includes two new lifts, seven new trails, additional snowmaking, an expanded main lodge, paved parking and base area improvements. All work should be completed in time for the start of the snow ski season. One of the new lifts will handle 2,400 skiers per hour. Of the seven new trails, six are designed for intermediate level skiers and snowboarders, with the other trail rate for beginners. This will be the largest expansion in the history of Cascade Mountain, which opened in 1962.
While you wait patiently for snow ski season, why not take in a water ski show. The Tommy Bartlett Show staged on Lake Delton showcases some of the finest skiers in the country. Plus there’s a stage component featuring a new act this year, “Christian and Scooby.” Christian Stoinev has performed his hand-balancing feats for international audiences, the Big Apple Circus, and during NBA halftimes. Yet it’s his pop culture claim to fame that should have crowds intrigued. He and his beloved dog Scooby were a Top 12 finalist on “America’s Got Talent.”
