Great Race at Chula Vista

Great Race at Chula Vista

Event Overview

The Great Race is a 9-day, 2,300-mile competitive endurance road rally race of 120 antique, vintage and collector cars. It’s a controlled speed race held on public highways testing a driver/navigator team’s ability to follow precise course instructions and a car’s ability to endure a cross-country trip. This is not a test of top speed, instead cars must be driven at or below posted speed limits at all times or they are penalized.

For two solid hours, cars will be entering Wisconsin Dells starting at approximately 3:00 PM via Hwy. 13 as they head to Chula Vista Resort. If all goes well, cars should be one minute apart as they stream to the resort.

While this is not a “show and shine” event, visitors are able to look at all 120 cars up close between 5 PM and 6 PM in the Chula Vista parking lot near the Bennett tower on the north side of the property on Thursday, June 23. It is common for kids to climb into the cars for a first-hand look.

While any car built in 1974 or earlier is eligible, most entries were manufactured before World War II (oldest is 1916). Countries represented include U.S., as well as autos from Japan, England, Australia, Germany, and Canada.

The first car will leave Chula Vista at 8 AM on Friday, June 24 and head to Hwy. 13. The last car leaves at 10:00 AM

Cars will leave Chula via Hwy. 13 and visitors are welcome to view the car exodus.
