    Kashmir – A Led Zeppelin Tribute - Friday February 21, 2020 10:00 PM

Kashmir was formed in late 2001, after guitarist Frank Livingston decided to form a show based on substance and feel rather than just “fitting the suit”.

“It is important to look the part, but way too often tribute bands seem to forget that without the sound, the look does nothing”.

KASHMIR is a very entertaining show bringing only the best of LED ZEPPELIN to a family oriented event.  KASHMIR seeks to re-create the experience of a 70’s Zeppelin show utilizing authentic vintage stage gear, costumes, and special effects, with great attention to detail in a non pretentious way.

    CAJUN STRANGERS - Tuesday February 25, 2020 3:00 PM

“While Cajun music may be hit or miss outside of Louisiana, it’s quite safe in Madison, Wisconsin.” – Offbeat Magazine, New Orleans

The Cajun Strangers are one of the Midwest’s premier Cajun music dance bands. Born out of their love for Louisiana porch music, the band performs Cajun and Zydeco dance music with “unbridled energy and contagious enthusiasm that’s more than enough to entice the most sedentary patron to rise up and shake what their mama gave’em.” (Dirty Linen Magazine)

The Strangers’ first two CDs were featured on the Swallow Records label (based out of Ville Platte, LA), and both won the esteemed award titled the “Prix Dehors De Nous” (The Best Outside of Us) from the Cajun French Music Association in Louisiana. Their third and latest CD, “Louisiana Boogie,” released in 2014, is currently in the running for a third award.

Offbeat Magazine, the New Orleans music magazine, recently declared in their enthusiastic review of Louisiana Boogie, “While the group covers tunes from Lawrence Walker, Iry LeJeune and Belton Richard well, what’s amazing is its depth and versatility.” At a Strangers show, you are likely to hear traditional Cajun, Zydeco, Cajun swing and Cajun blues.

The Strangers feature accordionist, Tom “Big Nick” Nickel, who created the popular Milwaukee based bnd, “Big Nick and the Cydecos,” well respected fiddler Brian O’Donnell, and guitarist, Scott Mullarky, who grew up in a French-speaking home in the Lafayette area. Scott has also has run the popular New Orleans style jug band Boo Bradley of Madison for many years. The rhythm section is filled out by bassist Joel Johnson and drummer Colin Bazsali.

Comedians Tim Cavanagh & Mike Mercury
Comedians Tim Cavanagh & Mike Mercury - Tuesday March 3, 2020

So, did you hear the one about the high school teacher who walked into a comedy club–and they hired him? That’s where the Tim Cavanagh comedy story begins. For a full year, Tim taught teenagers by day. By night, he sang his funny songs in Chicago comedy clubs. “Not surprisingly, I found the biggest difference between the classroom and the nightclub was the drunks–which I generally let the principal handle,” Tim says.

Since leaving the classroom, Tim Cavanagh has brought his comedic songs and inventive stand-up to concert halls, corporations, college campuses and nightclubs across America. And cruise ships around America. Over the years, he has also made several trips to Canada, where he has to convert all his jokes to Celsius and his one degree in philosophy becomes a bone-chilling minus 31.

Early on, it was Tim’s funny music that got a lot of attention. His song, “I Wanna Kiss Her (But She Won’t Let Me),” was the first of Tim’s pieces to receive national radio exposure, on the legendary “Dr. Demento” show. Other songs followed, including “99 Dead Baboons,” “Get Drunk with Dignity,” and “Really Safe Sex.” His funny tunes have been heard on radio stations everywhere, as well as on Sirius XM and even the BBC.

In 1997, Tim released his first CD, “Sounds Like Fun!” By then he had become a regular guest on “The Bob & Tom Show,” a nationally syndicated radio show now heard in 130 markets. For two years, Tim did a weekly segment on the show called “The One Minute Song,” which spawned two more CDs. Fast Forward to 2016. That’s when Tim’s fourth comedy album, “Love, Fish and Sausages,” was released. This latest CD contains 20 original comedy songs, backed by some great musicians. The 21st song on the album, “Vehicle Man,” is a parody of the 1970 hit “Vehicle.” The parody is not only done with permission, Tim actually sings this funny adaptation with Jim Peterik, the man who wrote the original and sang the lead on the “Ides of March” hit.

As for television, Tim has not only appeared on Comedy Central, he was chosen by the network to do several live performances for their clients and customers. His national appearances on ABC-TV, Showtime, and WGN America have put a face to the voice that so many knew only from the radio.

The book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Jokes, features a half-page of Tim’s advice on “How Not to Introduce a Joke,” as well as other select Cavanagh jokes. His book, Chicken Soup for the Vegetarian Soul, just went through its sixth printing. Tim firmly believes in printing them “one at a time.”

THE AMAZING KRESKIN - Thursday March 26, 2020

The “world’s greatest mentalist” for more than 60 years, tells his audience things about themselves that “only they” could possibly know. In fact the longer the Amazing Kreskin is on stage the more thoughts he picks up from his audience!

With a showman’s flair, a comedian’s wit, and the capacities of a bona fide Mentalist or thought reader, The Amazing Kreskin has, for six decades, dramatized the unique facets of the human mind…his own. His very name has become an integral part of pop culture throughout the world.

During the past fifty years Kreskin has had a television series, his own board game by Milton Bradley, twenty published books, and a major motion picture inspired by his work.

To reveal his remarkable diversity, John Romero, a leading gaming authority quotes in his book, ‘Las Vegas The Untold Story’ “Kreskin is the most dangerous person in the world with a deck of cards. The casinos would rather deal to Willie Sutton”.

Through the years Kreskin has received worldwide recognition for extraordinary predictions, often dealing with international affairs, and sports.  On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Kreskin predicted the 2012 United States Presidential Election, 18 months before Election Day.  As revealed on Fox television for the 2016 Super Bowl, Kreskin made three predictions.  He foresaw the deciding quarter of the game, the winning team, and their final score

In March 2016 Kreskin released his 20thbook entitled, “In Real Time”featuring his major predictions for the next several hundred years.  The day after Donald Trump was elected to the Presidency, Fox Television News revealed that Kreskin predicted Trumps election 11 months ahead of time, Live on December 9th, 2015 on FOX 5 Good Day DC Show in Washington, D.C.

Roger Kabler: The Ultimate Robin Williams Tribute Experience - Friday March 27, 2020

Celebrate the comedic genius of the late, great Robin Williams with a show that goes to great lengths to respect Robin’s memory and celebrate his legacy; hilarious and emotionally powerful at the same time. For everyone around the globe confused about his unexpected departure, this tribute offers a form of closure and a chance to laugh with Robin one more time.

Roger Kabler is a true renaissance man.  Along with being one of the finest comedy impressionists in the country, he is a talented actor and portrait artist. Roger has served as the spokesman for Zima in national television commercials.  He was a regular on the last Carol Burnett series in 1991.  He has also starred in his own NBC sitcom, Rhythm, and Blues.  Additionally, Roger wrote, produced and starred in the award-winning movie Who the Hell Is Bobby Roos? and has recently played to sold-out showrooms up and down the east coast.  Variety magazine calls him ‘an astounding impressionist’. When not performing, Roger paints portraits of animals and enjoys the outdoors.“Kabler convincingly, almost eerily, immerses himself in the comic persona of Williams, somehow capturing Williams’ barely containable physical energy, a nimble mind, and warm playfulness.”

‘Tis the Season: Best Places to Spend Christmas

Wisconsin Dells specializes in the fine art of fa-la-la-ing and ho-ho-ho-ing.

Meaning, the local business owners here revel in the opportunity to each December transform the Dells into holiday cheer central. Looking for holiday travel ideas? The list below is a good starting point. Now break out that Christmas sweater!

Indoor Snowfall, Life-size Gingerbread House Great Wolf Lodge gets the gold star for its indoor Snowland®. Snow machines create real snowflakes, how cool is that! Plus there’s a life-size gingerbread house you can reserve for breakfast, lunch or dinner; it seats up to six.

Disney Musical, Overnight Stay The new Palace Theater is staging the beloved Disney musical, “Mary Poppins,” through January 3. There’s just something about getting dressed up for a dinner theater production that says holiday to us.Spend the night at the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort right across the street and save on tickets. For little boys and girls who have been extra good, the resort will even arrange for “elves” to make special deliveries.

Waterslides and Snow Slides Mt. Olympus Hotel Rome brings you the winter versionof the waterslide with free tickets to Christmas Mountain Village Ski, Snowboard & Tube for overnight guests of their resort. Plus you’ll get free passes to all the indoor fun at Mt. Olympus Theme Park & Water Park. That should keep everyone plenty busy and plenty happy.

Busy Elves Chula Vista Resort clearly loves the holiday season, as evidenced by their line-up of December activities, including photo ops with Santa and Mrs. Claus, wagon rides, crafts, sing-alongs, holiday movies, story time, even an elf tuck-in.

The Big Day Enjoy a scrumptious holiday buffet at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions when you stay December 24-25. Then head to the waterpark for some festive family fun. Hmmm, do you still need to wait an hour before you swim?  Might be difficult to enforce given all the incredible slides and rides here.

Five Ways to Add to the Holiday Fun

Sleigh Ride There’s nothing that says “classic holiday” quite like a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow at Red Ridge Ranch Riding Stable. Woodside Ranch in nearby Mauston also offers wagon and sleigh rides, plus snow tubing, sledding and cross-country skiing for day visitors.

Train Ride For an experience that says “Christmas past,” hop aboard the 20th annual Santa Express, a train ride with the Jolly Old Elf himself aboard a historic train at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom. There are departure times throughout the day on November 29 and 30. Oh, and you’re guaranteed to be toasty warm because they use the century-old tradition of steam heating or coal-fired stove heating on the train. Come to think of it, isn’t that what they use at the North Pole too?

New Pair of Slipper Moccasins What’s the holiday season without a new pair of snuggly slippers. Pick up your favorite moccasin-style slip-ons at Winnebago Fine Goods & Gift Shop, Aunt Jenny’s Got-It-All Store, and Parson’s Indian Trading Post.

Create Your Own Holiday Treasure Paint It! Pottery Shop in downtown Dells is for all ages and all artistic abilities, plus they have specials all December-long. Create an ornament or chip ‘n dip tray that is uniquely yours.

Christmas Candy Sweet tooths unite! There’s something called the “Tower of Temptation” at Swiss Maid Fudge that seems tailor made for gifting or enjoying with those who made it to your “nice” list. The trio includes turtles, fudge and cashew crunch. The chocolate crème de menthe fudge at Goody Goody Gum Drop sounds goody goody good to us. Maybe pick up some champagne truffles while you’re there to tuck away for New Year’s Eve.

    What's Up in 2015
    2015-03-11
A new ride, a new aerial park. A new clubhouse, a new theater.
Once again “The Waterpark Capital of the World!®” rises to new heights.

Read on for a recap of all the exciting new developments in 2015.

    Feet Off the Ground

There’s a new tower ride at Mt. Olympus Theme Park & Water Park and it’s called Manticore (that’s a legendary creature similar to a sphinx for all you mythology buffs). This vertical swing stands more than 140-feet tall, has 12 arms and 12 double seats, and is lit up with a barrage of LED lights. You’ll get a spectacular view of the entire Mt. Olympus Park on this one.

It’s a first-of-its-kind for Wisconsin Dells as the area’s first aerial adventure park, Heightened Adventures, opens at Chula Vista Resort, taking up six acres in the woods between the resort and adjacent golf course. The attraction will have a zipline with aerial obstacle course, with obstacles at varying levels of difficulty, making it family-friendly for grade-schoolers through grown-ups. Plan to set aside at least two hours for the full experience, from gear-up and instruction through self-guided experience. Guided adventures are also available by request. The course is mapped at heights from 10 to 40 feet off the ground, affording terrific views of the forest and the Wisconsin River. This eco-adventure is open to the public year-round, weather permitting.

There’s something so naturally fun about jumping around on a trampoline that kids take to it like ducks to water. The trampoline park at Knuckleheads Trampoline Park ● Rides ● Bowling, entering its first full year, includes a monster jumping pillow plus every configuration of trampoline imaginable. It’s not unusual to see little kids making some big-time trick dunk shots on the basketball-themed trampoline area.

Those who venture over to BigFoot Zipline Tours this year will be in seventh heaven with the addition of zipline #7 known as Zipzilla. It stands 120 feet tall and takes you careening above treetops at 55 mph. The bird’s-eye view of the city alone is worth the price of admission.

    Branson? Vegas? No, Wisconsin Dells!

Now on to entertainment news. Palace Theater enters its first full year. This 800-seat dinner theater was completely renovated with all new sound and lighting equipment plus major architectural and interior design updates. The schedule includes Broadway-quality American musical revivals as well as favorite Disney classics, with cast and crew hailing from New York, Chicago and other entertainment hubs of the U.S. They’ll also have a line-up of nationally known bands and comedians for concert engagements. A full meal is included in the ticket price too. In 2015, shows include Pinkalicious, Ring of Fire, The Little Mermaid, Lombardi, A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker.

Take a step back in time with the new illusion at the well-established, 550-seat Rick Wilcox Magic Theater. Master illusionist and star of the show, Rick Wilcox, will send a youngster from the audience back in time 30, 40, even 50 years. Rick and the grade-schooler will step into a clear octagon glass box with wife Suzan Wilcox at the controls setting the dial for time travel. Rick and the child magically fade away. When Rick reappears the child isn’t with him – makes sense since he or she technically wasn’t born yet. When the child reappears, Rick is gone. The illusion ends with a surprise. Yes, you’ll have to see it to find out just what that surprise is. He’s spent three years working on it, ever the consummate perfectionist.

A Kick for Sports Fans and Sports Teams

Cold Water Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort is debuting a new clubhouse this year. The Clubhouse includes a 200-seat restaurant and outdoor veranda with firepits, TVs and great views to the bluffs. The resort has 65 years under its belt, so to speak, of perfecting the Friday Night Fish Fry, so that menu item should be a big draw. The resort is also getting into agri-tourism in an even bigger way this year with the expansion of their corn maze to a full 12 acres. The resort owners actually farm this land across from the golf course entrance, and they’ll be planting in excess of 700,000 seeds of corn to make the maze before harvesting the crop at the close of the season. Along with the maze there will be a farm market, hayrides, a potato slinging catapult and inflatable slides.

Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells knows how to keep the ball rolling when it comes to expansions. In 2015 they open two new grass soccer/multipurpose fields, adding to the six synthetic turf soccer fields and four synthetic turf baseball/softball fields opened just last year. There’s also a retail and concession stand plus meeting rooms and a VIP viewing area. Woodside also has a huge facility in nearby Mauston and owns and operates the Wisconsin Dells Center Dome.

Spring Brook Sports Bar & Grill is now sporting 26 flat-screen TVs in a new private dining room and bar area, making it a great hang-out for sports fans.

Ambers Resort & Conference Center gets Most Improved Player honors for its $4 million renovation. The 228 rooms are refreshed and there are now two indoor pools and two outdoor activity pools. Their hospitality rooms are great for teams looking to hold an all-team potluck. This property is a hop, skip and a jump from JustAgame Fieldhouse, which, by the way, is hosting the 2015 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Final Four.

    Food and Drink

Wollersheim Winery opens its new 25,000 square foot distillery this summer, featuring its own cellar and retail space. The fruits for the brandies are grown in Wisconsin and the grains for the whiskey and gin come from a farm just one mile down the road from the distillery. An intriguing factoid: both wine and brandy were made on the property nearly 100 years ago. Post-Prohibition regulations made a return to these roots impossible, until 2009 that is, when a change in Wisconsin law once again allowed wineries to distill spirits. Wollersheim Winery sits on a hillside overlooking the Wisconsin River in nearby Prairie du Sac.

The Meat Market, an old-fashioned butcher shop where the meat is sourced from local farms and cut fresh daily for the meat case, recently opened. What’s really tempting is the huge variety of brats – no question you’re in Wisconsin when there are more than 20 varieties of brats from which to choose.

Mr. G’s Chicken Shack in downtown Wisconsin Dells has the kind of carry-out and delivery food that you can’t help but associate with words like mouthwatering and yummy. Their specialty is something called “chic on a stick,” thus bringing new meaning to the term grab-and-go food.

Driftless Glen Distillery on the banks of the Wisconsin River in Baraboo is opening a restaurant with seating for 200 inside and outdoor dining for 55. Given their stock in trade as a distillery, it’s no surprise the owners will be serving up “distillery cuisine,” with the majority of dishes using the handcrafted spirits in creative ways. How interesting that they are also using the spent grains used in making the spirits to feed the cows they source for their beef dishes. Talk about farm to glass to plate! The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner plus Sunday brunch. Tack on a tour and tasting while you’re there. By the way, their neighbor is Circus World and if you time your visit right you might see circus animals crossing the river while you dine.

    More Spa, More Serenity

Spa Serenity, just a short drive away in downtown Baraboo, has become even more serene with the addition of new treatment rooms, quiet lounge areas, and a pretty manicure and pedicure station in the front of the building with huge windows looking out onto the quaint city center.

    Cute Little Shopping Find

The Ivy Cottage is a great find for purse fanatics, jewelry lovers and those who fancy themselves interior designers of their own abodes. It’s located downtown in a 1930s cottage-style home with loads of architectural charm and, of course, the requisite climbing ivy on the outside to add to the curb appeal. The shop offers some upscale resale items too.

BIG ANNIVERSARIES, STARTING WITH A SESQUICENTENNIAL

150 Years for H.H. Bennett Studio

H.H. Bennett StudioCan Wisconsin Dells’ fame be traced back 150 years to a single person? The answer to that tourism genealogy question is a resounding “yes,” and the person is Henry Hamilton Bennett. His exquisite images of the Wisconsin River with its towering sandstone cliffs and mystical caverns, raftsmen risking life and limb to ferry timber, the Ho-Chunk nation and their life along the dells of the river, and even his own family members standing in as models proved fascinating photojournalism. Bennett was an early marketing pioneer as well, arranging for his photos to be displayed in train stations between Wisconsin Dells and Chicago. Visitors began arriving to experience the natural beauty of the Dells and naturally needed places to stay, places to eat and boat guides to take them on tours of the river. Thus, the tourism industry here was born. In nearly every Bennett bio you’ll see the phrase, “the man who made Wisconsin Dells famous.”

Bennett, and later his family, ran the historic photography studio in downtown Dells for 135 years before donating the studio and the extensive photographic collection to the Wisconsin Historical Society. It is the oldest continually operating photography studio in the United States.

The sesquicentennial is being marked with a season-long anniversary gallery exhibit, “150 Years of Dells and Studio History,” plus a weekend of celebrations including activities in the studio and adjoining outdoor courtyard the weekend of June 13-14. Don’t miss the all-new 3-D stereo viewer station in the studio – it’s the best way to see the river as it was in Bennett’s day. On August 22, the Crystal Grand Music Theater will be the site of “Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial Reawakened,” a program of Native American song, dance and historic Bennett photos produced by Friends of H.H. Bennett Studio and Little Eagle Arts Foundation.

    Ducks Live to Be 70

Original Wisconsin DucksThe Original Wisconsin Ducks®, the WWII land-to-water vehicles repurposed for tours of the Dells, start their 70th season this year. To mark the occasion look for 10 of the 92 Ducks to be painted in a retro color scheme reminiscent of the 1950s and ‘60s.

Here’s some interesting Duck trivia: Upwards of 500 people have been Duck drivers since the ‘50s and it remains one of the most coveted jobs in the Dells, not only for the chance to be outdoors but also because it looks good on a resume. Today, along with three generations of visitors to the Dells, there are even three generations of Duck drivers, with the youngest being 18 and the oldest 77.

Yogi Bear Camp-Resort & Water Playground Goes Retro for 45th

Yogi Bear Camp Resort & Water PlaygroundFor their 45th anniversary this year, the owners of Yogi Bear™ Camp-Resort & Water Playground are one-upping the concept of “throwback Thursday” by staging a full-scale throwback with the renovation of their 50 family lodges to now include avocado and gold color schemes in all the kitchens. They’ve also purchased a foam machine to add a layer of frothy fun to their waterslide activity area for special events. While today’s little ones may not know the original cartoon, they are still bound to enjoy appearances by the lovable cartoon characters and the parades through the camp resort.

25th Anniversary for Dells Mining Co.

Dells Mining CoDells Mining Co. turns 25 this year. How serendipitous that it’s the silver anniversary - after all, they provide pretty sterling silver mountings for the sparkly gemstones you “pan for” by sifting through gem-rich soil to find treasures. They’ll even custom design jewelry for you. Gold mountings are also a choice (gold is for 50th anniversaries, just in case you were wondering). Dells Mining Co. has two locations – the original one is on the Wisconsin Dells Parkway and is open seasonally while the second location, right downtown on Broadway, is open year-round – and they’ll be having anniversary specials all year-long.

Palace Theater a flavorful playhouse option in Wisconsin Dells2016-01-01When Chicago theater and movie producer Anthony Tomaska saw a "For Sale" sign at the then-shuttered Palace Theater in Wisconsin Dells in the summer of 2013, his wife ordered him to "keep driving." She also said, "You are not buying that." So, like any smart husband, he drove on and spent an enjoyable weekend at the Wilderness Resort with his spouse and son.Read More
