Soak Up the Scenery 10 Different Ways

Lost canyon horse wagon tour

We’re going to make your fall getaway planning a breeze with this list of “10 Ways to Soak Up the Scenery in Wisconsin Dells.”

  1. Scenic boat tour on the Wisconsin River. This is an activity for the ages. Such a quintessential Wisconsin Dells attraction that is even better in the fall, if that’s even possible.
  2. Duck tours on land and water. Watch fall colors breeze by before floating around Lake Delton and the Wisconsin River.
  3. Horseback riding. There’s Canyon Creek Riding Stables, Red Ridge Ranch and Woodside Ranch. Or sit back in a quaint horse-drawn carriage for a ride though cliff-walled gorges courtesy of Lost Canyon Tours.
  4. Train rides. Mid-Continent Railway Museum is an operating railroad with full-size restored steel coaches built a century ago (tip: check out their fall themed rides), while Riverside & Great Northern Railway is a living museum with a 15-inch gauge railroad. Insider find: The train on the grounds of Timbavati Wildlife Park was rescued from the old Fort Dells attraction.
  5. Ziplining and ropes courses. Two words – exhilaration and beautiful! Spend the day surrounded by natures beauty and the beautiful fall leaves. Try both the ropes course and zipline at Bigfoot Zipline Tours. Vertical Illusions-Zip Line/Kayak/Rock Climbing Adventure Center is known for its eco-adventures. Dells Zipline Adventures lets you choose the challenge, either close to the ground or 60 feet in the air. Dells Adventure Tours - Vertical Adventure Guides specializes in rock climbing at nearby Devil’s Lake State Park.
  6. Paddle. Dells Watersports: Full Service Marina & Boat Rental has kayaks of all sizes along with canoes and stand-up paddleboards for paddling Mirror Lake and Lake Delton.
  7. Winery tour. Dells Trolley Tours are a fun way to enjoy a full wine experience in Wisconsin Dells.
  8. Golf. Get a feel for the greens at 9-hole courses, then graduate to championship courses, each with its own distinctive topography and views.
  9. Fall festivals. Join us in Wisconsin Dells for Wo-Zha-Wa Days Fall Festival. Plan ahead for Dells On Tap Weekend which starts with a craft beer walk on Friday evening, followed by the super-popular microbrewery tasting event on Saturday. Warm up your arm for the repeated motion of bringing beer glass to lips and pretzels to mouth with the bag toss tournament, also Saturday morning. Rounding up the fall festivals is the Fall Wine Walk.
  10. Scenic River Walk. This paved path starts right downtown and, within a few steps, reveals stunning vistas of the Wisconsin River and towering sandstone cliffs.

As for where to stay, try a cabin this time of year to really put you in touch with nature. Sand County Service Company has lots of unique rentals and has been fulfilling fall vacation dreams for more than 25 years. The five-bedroom Log Gables Log House is situated on a pretty wooded parcel, perfect for wildlife watching.
