Planning a Family Thanksgiving in the Dells

Family dining at Trappers Turn.

Thanksgiving is a holiday to warm the heart and the stomach. Good thing Wisconsin Dells delivers on both with its Thanksgiving offerings.

We think everyone in your group will be extra thankful should you choose to have your Thanksgiving dinner in Wisconsin Dells. Grown-ups will love having extra time to visit while the resorts prepare Thanksgiving feasts. Teens and tweens will be exceptionally satisfied with trying every ride and slide at the waterparks while the little kiddos happily splash away too. Grandparents can relish the togetherness (or take a break from it) with a walk at one of the nearby state parks or a stroll through downtown shops.

Convinced? Good, because that means you’re ready to dig into the specifics. Let’s start with Turkey Day at the major resorts.

Wisconsin Dells Resorts Putting Out a Thanksgiving Spread

Thursday, Nov. 23 is dedicated to dining at many of the area resorts.

The Wilderness Resort will set a grand Thanksgiving Day buffet, and they’re also offering a family-style meal-to-go if you’d like to dine in your condo, villa, or cabin.

Kalahari Resort’s annual Thanksgiving Celebration buffet features all the traditional favorites and a dessert station that is worth saving room for. Their onsite eateries will be featuring pumpkin spice treats, like a pumpkin pie milkshake, at the Wisconsin Brew Pub, and apple caramel snickerdoodle cookies at the Kalahari Cookie Company. Stay in a five-bedroom entertainment house to maximize family time.

At Chula Vista Resort, the Thanksgiving Day buffet and Thanksgiving Stay specials will give you lots to be thankful for.

One more buffet featuring food made with love is the annual Thanksgiving spread at Trappers Turn Golf Club.

To keep drowsiness (aka, food coma) at bay, pop into Bella Goose - Cafe on the River for a seasonal latte of your liking. Choose from salted caramel, pumpkin pie, or butter pecan. There’s also something they’re calling The Flannel – a latte with local maple syrup and cinnamon…yummy!

Classic Attractions to Go Along with Thanksgiving in Wisconsin Dells

After the last bite of pumpkin pie is consumed, it will be time to think about what else everyone would like to do while in Wisconsin Dells. Along with waterpark fun, of course, how about bowling? Chalet Lanes & Lounge has bumper bowling for the kids so everyone will be happy with their score. Volcano Lounge and Lanes at Kalahari Resort has 24 lanes, so pick your teams for a few games of friendly competition.

Indoor amusement parks will keep the kids very, very busy. Knuckleheads Trampoline Park has slam dunk basketball hoops, a dodgeball court, and a large open jump area. Tom Foolerys Adventure Park has a ropes course, climbing wall, zip line, laser tag, mini golf, and go-karting, all under one roof.

Put the whole family to the test at an area escape room. Booby Trap Escape Rooms features experiences themed to a slime lab, Pharoah’s revenge, and an inventor’s workshop, among others. Room escapes can also be found at Wilderness Resort. Little ones will enjoy the scavenger-hunt-style MagiQuest at Great Wolf Lodge.

Don’t Forget Black Friday Shopping

Women shopping at Outlets at the Dells.

Outlets at The Dells bills itself as a savings adventure, and with more than 60 popular brand name stores, that certainly rings true.

Wisconsin Dells Antique & Craft Mall is one-stop shopping for antique hunters (they have more than 250 dealers) and craft shoppers (more than 300 vendors).

This is a good time to think about stocking stuffers and St. Nick treats, and that’s where the downtown fudge shops, candy stores, and popcorn counters come in handy. Enjoy the aromas and tastes at Swiss Maid Fudge, Kernel Popcorn’s Factory/Candy Kitchen, Goody Goody Gum Drop, Original Wisconsin Dells Fudge, and Oodlesmack Popcorn.

Wine makes a lovely hostess gift for all those Christmas parties already filling your calendar and Wisconsin Dells has a handful of wineries, so sip, sample, and purchase your favorites at Fawn Creek, Wollersheim, Baraboo Bluff, Balanced Rock, and Broken Bottle. Pair with some cheese from Market Square Cheese and you’re set for December festivities.
