Two boys snow tubing at Cascade Mountain

Wisconsin Dells banished the notion of cabin fever long ago, as evidenced by all these terrific outdoor pursuits for the whole family that benefit from lots of snow.

Cross Country Skiing

Snow is our friend in Wisconsin Dells when it comes to winter recreation. Which means there’s “snow reason” (see what we did there) to stay cooped up indoors when a stunning winter wonderland awaits.

First stop should always be Cascade Mountain Ski, Snowboard & Snow Tube. Pick your pursuit – downhill skiing, snowboarding or snow tubing. Kids 12 and younger ski free when accompanied by a paid adult. There’s a high-speed lift to get you to the top quickly so you can speed down even more quickly. The snow tube park has five runs, no skill required.

We highly recommend two nearby state parks too. Mirror Lake State Park has nearly 20 miles of trails, most groomed for cross-country skiing. And at Devil’s Lake State Park, embark on a snowshoeing adventure or try your hand at ice fishing.

There’s something special about horseback riding through a frosty forest and that’s what you can experience at Woodside Ranch Riding Stables. By the numbers, there are 100 horses and 1,000 acres here. Check out the sledding and tubing hill too, as well as their cross-country ski trails.

Bonus: The Scenic River Walk with views to the Wisconsin River and majestic cliffs is groomed for easy winter walking. Breathe in the fresh air, soak in the scenery and connect with the place where tourism began in the Dells.
