Construction or not, the fun continues! Hotels, attractions, restaurants, and shops along Highway 12 (Wisconsin Dells Parkway) will all stay open during the project. Some routes may shift here and there, but you’ll still be able to get everywhere you want to go. Watch for posted signage along the Parkway to help guide you through any temporary changes.

Yes. All hotels, attractions, restaurants, and shops will stay open and accessible during construction.

How long will construction last?

Work begins in fall 2026 and will take place in phases. The construction is estimated to end fall 2028. 

Where exactly is the construction happening?

The project focuses on a short stretch of Highway 12 (Wisconsin Dells Parkway) between WIS 13 and E. Adams Street in Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells.

The work will roll out in phases, and traffic patterns may shift as each phase progresses. Once complete, the update will make getting around easier and safer for visitors.

Why is the road being expanded?

The project includes expanding the roadway with an additional lane for improved safety and traffic flow. The roadway pavement, curb, and gutter will be replaced as part of the project, signals and pedestrian crossings upgraded, and a shared use path constructed on the west side of the road between County A and Olympus Road. 

Will pedestrian or bike access be affected?

In certain spots, access may temporarily shift. Any closures or adjustments will be posted by Wisconsin Department of Transportation as phases progress.

Do I need to plan extra travel time?

It’s a good idea. Depending on the phase and season, short delays are possible. Checking route information before you head out will help you plan.

Stage 1:
September 2026 – Mid-June 2027
Reconstruct east half of the Dells Parkway from Pilgrim Drive to WIS 13. Access to local businesses will be maintained through the work zone.
All lanes open:
Mid-June 2027 – September 2027
All lanes are open. No access restrictions.
Stage 2:
September 2027 – Mid-June 2028
Work will occur on one side of the parkway with access restrictions. Single lane and Median closures. 
All lanes open:
Mid-June 2028 – September 2028:
All lanes are open. No access restrictions.
Stage 3 & 4: 
September 2028 – Mid-June 2029
Work will occur on one side and median of the parkway with access restrictions.
