A Vacation for Mom
Sure, Wisconsin Dells is unequivocally one of the most popular family vacation spots in the U.S. But did you know there are treasures here for Mom too? With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we asked the moms on the staff of the Wisconsin Dells Visitor Bureau for some of their picks to help you plan a getaway for your Mom.
Spas: Would your mom like a therapeutic massage or facial or pedicure? Silly question, of course, she would! She can enjoy all three at full-service day spas including Elements Spa Salon at Great Wolf Lodge, Spa Del Sol at Chula Vista Resort, Spa Kalahari, Spa Serenity, Therapeutic Rejuvenation and Sun Mountain Spa. A favorite: An overnight at Sundara Inn & Spa, recently named among the 20 Best Destination Spas by Town & Country magazine.
Fine dining: The Del-Bar, Field’s at the Wilderness, Ishnala, Kaminski’s Chop House, and House of Embers have the kind of vibe moms crave, with the food prepared fresh, the service impeccable, and the pace very relaxed. A favorite: Save room for the strawberry Schaum torte at The Del-Bar.
Wineries: Wisconsin has really come into its own in the wine world, perfecting the growing of cold-hardy grapes. In Wisconsin Dells, mom might like to experience a tasting at Baraboo Bluff Winery or shopping at Fawn Creek Winery. If cider is more to her taste, Prairie Hawk Winery offers hard cider made from locally grown apples and they have a mead wine made with honey too. A favorite: Historic Wollersheim Winery where the vineyards and atop overlook the Wisconsin River Valley.
Art: Mom can create her own wall-worthy custom piece of art or home décor item at Board & Brush Creative Studio. The workshops are instructor-led, so novice DIYers will feel right at home. A favorite: Their specially licensed Wisconsin Badger designs.
Paddle: Dells Watersports has a location on peaceful Mirror Lake where mom can rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard. This “slow no wake” body of water is surrounded by sandstone bluffs covered in red and white pines. A favorite: Pair with a hiking expedition at Devil’s Lake State Park, notable for its distinctive quartzite cliffs.
One last special note: Waterpark resorts with special Sunday brunches include the Kalahari Resort, Chula Vista Resort, and the Wilderness Resort.
