2008-07-06My husband and I went to Marley's for our first wedding anniversary while in the dells. I loved it!!! The food and the fun atmosphere every thing was great!!! Earlier in the day it is a fun family friendly place to hang out, with silly hats and amazing food. We left to check out other hang outs and came back to Marley's. I actually ate there three times in two days. Great drink specials and food prices. I highly suggest checking it out.

Romancing the Dells2010-12-06Did you know 25% of visitors to Wisconsin Dells come without kids? We suspect that number is even higher in the cold-weather months when empty-nesters flock to the spas, supper clubs, boutique shops and resorts for some R&R&R (rest and relaxation and romance).Read More

Wisconsin Dells Is For Grown-Ups Too

Have you and your significant other visited Wisconsin Dells as a twosome, arriving under cover because you might run into someone you know who would tease you for choosing a family destination as a romantic getaway? Well, come into the light, because nearly 25% of visitors to the Dells travel here without children. You read that right. It’s a statistic we’re in love with.

There are so many couples’ activities in the Dells now that you’ll be giving the kiddies a run for the money. Let’s start with Wisconsin Dells hotels and lodging options. Richly appointed condominiums on Lake Delton. Cozy cabins in the woods. Amenity rich resorts and hotels with flair. B&Bs that just keep getting better.  Even a destination spa that’s been the talk of New York’s morning network shows.

With a dusting of snow, it just makes the Dells seem that much more romantic. Venture out for a little boutique Wisconsin Dells shopping, a winery tour and tasting, a special evening out at one of our classic supper clubs. Then take in a show at Crystal Grand Music Theatre, do a little clubbing at Marley’s – A Taste of the Caribbean or prove to your significant other that you’re a lucky charm at Ho-Chunk Gaming, Wisconsin Dells.

Our resort owners even found a way to make the indoor water parks a couples’ oasis with luxury cabanas decked out with every accoutrement you could want like flat-screen TVs, bar, wi-fi and sophisticated furnishings.

Time to show the one you love everything Wisconsin Dells has to offer in the way of romance. P.S. It’s so much less expensive than couples’ counseling and a lot more fun.

Get Your Fill of Adventure2011-08-01Some vacation spots are defined by a single activity. You go to Mt. Rushmore to see the presidents. You go to Vegas to gamble. You go to Niagara Falls to honeymoon. Some might say you go to Wisconsin Dells to play in the waterparks and, to a very large degree, that would be true. But that’s not the only game in town.Read More

    Get Your Fill of Adventure

If you like to hang out in a hammock on your vacation, this is not the itinerary for you. Now if you like to hang out at the waterpark or from a zip line, then start making a list of all the items on this adventure vacation checklist that you’d like to experience.

Let’s get right to the must-do and that’s ride and slide your way through a favorite waterpark or two. Outdoors, it would be impossible to choose between Noah’s Ark Waterpark and Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Parks, so make time for both. At Noah’s Ark, their new looping waterslide called Scorpion’s Tail is the largest in the world. At Mt. O (that’s what the locals call it), crash through the nine-foot waves of their Poseidon’s Rage surf pool.

There are a handful of indoor waterparks that make this itinerary, all housed at resorts that are nearly destinations unto themselves: Kalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center, Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, Chula Vista Resort and Great Wolf Lodge. Water roller coasters, wild funnel rides, racing slides, even a surf machine at the Kalahari rank high on the adrenaline-inducing chart.

Amusement parks come in the outdoor and indoor varieties too. Let’s start with outdoors. Timber Falls Adventure Park has two attractions that are noteworthy - their 70-degree banked and crazy-fast Hellcat roller coaster and their end-over-end Skyscraper ride that pulls four Gs at 60 mph 160 feet off the ground. At Mt. Olympus, all their roller coasters are a scream, but top prize goes to Hades, a wooden coaster made diabolically fun with a 65-degree drop, the world’s longest underground tunnel and speeds up to 70 mph.

Moving to indoor amusement parks, the Kalahari Indoor Theme Park is the featured spot. Check out their elevated go-kart track, rock climbing wall, ropes course and laser tag. If adventure is the ticket for your little ones, there’s Knuckleheads Bowling & Indoor Amusement Park.

Next up on your adventure itinerary - zip lines. The Wilderness Canyon Zipline Canopy Tours’ takes you over Lost Canyon and an expansive tree canopy. The other zip line, BigFoot ZipLine, has four water crossings.

Still high in the sky is the next recommendation and that’s parasailing. Lake Delton Water Sports has been hoisting riders 450 feet in the air for a sail around Lake Delton for a dozen years now. They have a second location at Castle Rock Lake in nearby Mauston. Holiday Shores Watersports Center flies riders up and down the Wisconsin River with the sandstone bluffs as the backdrop for their rainbow-colored sails.

Wisconsin Dells even offers some adventures in dining. At Marley’s - A Taste of the Caribbean, a hoppin’ spot in a new location, you can sample spicy jerk chicken and rum grouper. For an after-dinner drink, try Kahunaville Restaurant & Lounge, where bartenders juggle glasses and bottles as part of their drink mixology routine.

Lest you be left with the impression that adventure is only available in the summer months, think again. In the fall, there’s the haunted boat tour of the Wisconsin River. This after-dark excursion, hosted by Dells Boat Tours® includes a shore landing and a walk deep into Witch’s Gulch, perfect for Halloween-timed getaways. Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Parks has haunted nights at their amusement park too. For winter, what could be better than the cold-weather version of the waterslide - snow tubing. Hop on a tube and fly down a hill at Cascade Mountain Ski, Snowboard & Snow Tube.

    Make It A Grown-up Getaway
    2011-08-01

While Wisconsin Dells built its reputation on family-friendly offerings, there’s nothing to say you can’t vacation here without the kids. In fact, there’s lots to suggest you should.

For golfers, there are six courses in all and three of them are critically acclaimed championship courses. Wild Rock Golf Club is built around and through a former quarry and Links, Golf Digest and Golf magazines all rated it among the top 10 new courses for 2008. Trappers Turn Golf Club and Cold Water Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort complete the trio.

Some say golf and spa is a natural twosome. If you agree, rent one of Sundara Inn & Spa’s private villas overlooking the Wild Rock course and make time for a golfer’s massage and a dip in their heated outdoor infinity pool. At Chula Vista Resort, their golf villas also overlook the fairway and are within easy walking distance of the clubhouse. There’s a spa on-premise here too, Spa Del Sol, where the Couples Massage Flame Experience, which uses a flame-warmed essential oil, is the newest addition to their menu of services.

Now that you’re feeling warm on the outside, feel all warm in the inside with some wine tastings. Wollersheim Winery in nearby Prairie du Sac is breathtaking, with steep vineyards overlooking the Wisconsin River and historic buildings making up the estate. French winemaker Philippe Coquard deserves a clink of the glasses for his ability to combine European tradition with Wisconsin’s fickle growing season in the production of distinctive award-winning wines. Fawn Creek Winery in Wisconsin Dells also has a fine selection of wines and a micro menu of olive trays, artisan cheese flights, breads with dipping oils and even Wisconsin microbrews that are just too tempting to pass up.

Let’s stick with microbrews for a moment longer. Moosejaw Pizza & Dells Brewing Co. serves up 10 hand-crafted beers. Take a peek at their copper-clad barrels, then ask for the brewmaster’s recommendation for a seasonal brew. They also make a mean root beer.

Moving from microbrews to munching, when you’re without the kids you should make dinner out a special occasion. Try one of the area’s well-respected supper clubs.  The Del-Bar has been around since the 1940s and only gets better with age. With its Prairie-style architecture, expansive wine cellar and exquisitely prepared steaks, it’s a special treat. Other places with great ambiance and equally great steaks are Field’s at the Wilderness, House of Embers, Kaminski Bros. Chop House, Ishnala Supper Club and Copper Oak Steak House at Ho-Chunk Gaming, Wisconsin Dells.

Imagine shopping without children in tow. You can linger in jewelry boutiques like Artistic Expression Gift Gallery, selecting from among the works of 150 artists. You can try on outfit after designer outfit at Alpha Beta Karma. You can pick out that piece of artwork that calls to you at places like Holiday House and Cranberry Connections. Better bring along a friend to help carry all the bags.

Gather some energy for a night out. Ho-Chunk Gaming has slots, Black Jack and bingo. Their newest table game is Baccarat. Other nightlife in the Dells comes in other forms too, like comedy or music. For music, the dueling pianos act at Monk’s at the Wilderness is a hoot. And Marley’s – A Taste of the Caribbean turns into a hot-spot dance club at night. One venue that offers both laughs and music acts is Crystal Grand Music Theatre. If you’re in the mood for a nightcap, head to Showboat Saloon, Sand Bar or Zap’s Tap to name a few of the local’s favorites.

Here’s one surprise recommendation for your trip without kids - play at the waterparks. When it’s just the grown-ups, you can ride all the daring slides, float the lazy river as long as you want, and rent a decked-out private poolside cabana at one of the waterpark resorts, like the new Grand Cabana at the Kalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center where you can lounge in your own private 12-foot-long hot tub.
