5 Ways to Stay on Track While on Vacation

Just because you’re headed on vacation with the fam doesn’t mean that you can’t stick to your New Year’s resolution to stay healthy. Here are five great ways to stay on track while still having fun on your next adventure.

  1. Hit the Gym – Most hotels and resorts have fitness center facilities on property, so take advantage of them! Some places, like Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, even have personal trainers available by appointment so you can take things up a notch…if you want. Your best bet is to get your workout in right after you wakeup so there’s less chance you’ll get distracted by all the fun activities that come with going on vacation.
  2. Choose Active Attractions – Want to get a workout without feeling like you’re working out? Some waterslide towers in Wisconsin Dells are up to 10-stories tall so you’ll have your work cut out for you especially if you go again, and again and again. Kick off your shoes and bounce around at a trampoline park like Knuckleheads Trampoline Park • Rides • Bowling or work on your balance while weaving yourself through a ropes course high above the ground like the one at Tom Foolerys Adventure Park.
  3. Go for a Walk – One of the best things about going somewhere new is exploring the town. So, get your steps in and wander around downtown or take the scenic route along the Wisconsin River to catch a glimpse of the beautiful sandstone cliffs that flank the water’s edge. You may just stumble upon a hidden gem that you may have missed otherwise. The best part about it? It’s free and open to the public year-round.
  4. Visit a State ParkDevil’s Lake State Park offers 29 miles of hiking trails, ranging anywhere from easy to intermediate. The towering quartzite bluffs that surround the 369-acre lake provide rewarding views and stunning photo opportunities. Mirror Lake State Park is a nature-lover’s dream with 17-miles of groomed trails, perfect for cross country skiing in the winter months. If you packed your snowshoes, head over to Rocky Arbor State Park for a wonderful winter experience through this easy-to-access 244-acre state park.
  5. Eat Healthy – Usually this is the hardest part of staying on track while on vacation. Many people tend to treat themselves on vacation by splurging on menu items but eating out doesn’t have to detract you from your goals. Most restaurants offer a lighter fare menu or mark healthier options with an easy to spot icon, making it easy for you to choose wisely.

By incorporating these tips into your next vacation you’ll be able to unwind without letting your New Year’s resolutions unravel.
