If you’re planning to bring Fluffy or Fido along for the ride – as in your next vacation road trip to Wisconsin Dells – you’ll want ideas for pet-friendly options. We have lots to share.
O.K. Fido, Let’s Go to the Dells
If you scooped up a rescue dog, fostered a puppy you couldn’t part with, or made your longtime four-legged companion your home office mate and find that parting with your pet for a getaway just doesn’t feel right, you wouldn’t be alone. Searches for pet-friendly travel continue to be very brisk, so we thought it’s time we dedicate a post to dog-friendly options in the Dells.
Pet-Friendly Lodging in Wisconsin Dells
First up, where to stay. The range is really rather remarkable, from a cottage booked through Sand County Service Company to a suite at Chula Vista Resort. Another fine option is Baker’s Sunset Bay on Lake Delton, already well known for its family-friendly accommodations and amenities so you know your dog will like it too. Woodside Ranch is just a short drive from the Dells and offers pet-friendly cabins, which makes perfect sense given their affinity for four-legged creatures, including their more than 100 horses for horseback riding. During the summer months, take your pick from any of the area campgrounds or ask about the pet-friendly units at Birchcliff Resort, where the woodsy setting is quiet and relaxing. Here’s the full list of pet-friendly lodging in the area.
Fun Things to Do with Your Pet in the Dells
Of course, you’ll want to take your pet along to see the sights. Stretch your legs with a hike at one of the three nearby state parks – Rocky Arbor, Mirror Lake and Devil’s Lake. Capture the vacation memory forever with a photo at Old Abe’s Old Time Portraits – call ahead for an appointment.
During the warmer months, your options are a little more robust. If your pup is on the petite side, then you’re a “go” for a ride on the Original Wisconsin Ducks and Dells Army Ducks. Pile in the car and head to Big Sky Twin Drive-In Theater for an old-fashioned movie night under the stars.
Thanks to outdoor seating, Fido can tag along as you nosh on appetizers at open-air Riverfront Terrace overlooking the Wisconsin River; River Walk Pub Food & Spirits, also perched on a bluff overlooking the river and with lots of patio seating to enjoy a Friday Fish Fry; and Grateful Shed, with a variety of food trucks to tempt taste buds and an indoor/outdoor set-up made for socializing.
P.S. If you do need doggie daycare, or yummy pet-friendly treats, the owners at Pet Retreat will welcome Fido or Fluffy with open arms.
